What’s My Channel 4 Screen Test Got To Do With The Ashes?

December 9, 2010

I’ve just come back from Soho in London, as I was invited to do a screen test for a possible Channel 4 Show about teenagers starting in the New Year.

It went really well and I would LOVE to do it as I could reach, empower and inspire lots of ordinary parents raising their teens – who don’t all have extreme problems.

Most of the people I work with are just going through a transition or a new phase and have got a bit stuck.

They are looking for some new ideas, some fresh approaches and some practical tips – so I am that sounding board asking some good questions to help them find their own answers.

That’s what good Parent Coaching is all about – asking and inspiring and championing parents on, to be the best they can be for their families.

Most people haven’t even heard of Parent Coaching let alone experienced it – but it’s very empowering, life changing and transforming as it gives families clarity, direction and confidence.

So I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed as the programme will also show case what I do, as I hope to be working with parents over the telephone – which is exactly what I do all the time.  In  my experience of working with parents from around the world parenting is the same the world over from Camden to Canada  whether it’s toddler tantrums, homework issues, or untidy teenage bedrooms !

I have long held this vision of showcasing Parent Coaching as it is not about criticising, judging or pointing fingers but ALL about holding out a helping hand, being a cheerleader and patting parents on the back.

My next vision (after getting my new website up and rocking and rolling in the New Year) is to hold really FUN parenting events – with laughter and learning right at the centre of the whole workshop. Something along the lines of  the  “Change Your Life in 7 Days” workshops with Paul McKenna that I  trained with, or along the same lines as  Tony Robbins’ events with music, great energy and brilliant speakers ….. so watch this space. I’m already pondering who to work with !

Then I arrived home to a flurry of excitement as my 18 year old son had booked up to go to Australia to watch England hopefully win The Ashes. He had booked it,  paid for it himself and arranged another month working and staying with my cousin in Tasmania.

I’m thrilled for him as he will then take himself off to another family friend in South Africa as he explores the world on his Gap Year.

We were all  there in Sydney 4 years ago as a family and England  were badly beaten in the cricket  so hopefully he’ll fulfill one of his big dreams to blog, podcast and write about  an England win as he pursues his goal of becoming a Sports Journalist one day.
